What is VoteWrap?

VoteWrap is an open source method released under the terms of GPL that has been developed to improve the handling of contention in collaborative environments by introducing a variable consensus level calculated from how important and urgent an issue is to each voter. And, by dynamically integrating all the following formal and informal elements of voting:

  • Issue Proposal
  • Issue Wording
  • Issue Importance & Urgency
  • Voting Compulsion
  • Quorum
  • Resource Contribution
  • Voting Finalisation
  • Confidence
  • Secret Vote
  • Representation
  • Undecided Votes
  • Associated sub-issues
  • Relative priority to other issues

The VoteWrap Method exists as a documented specification and as a set of fully functional Excel prototypes.

The next stage in the development of VoteWrap is to implement the method into a real collaborative space such as MediaWiki.

In practice VoteWrap is most effective when applied to 'Object Oriented Documentation' (a.k.a. 'OO Doco'). An example of 'OO Doco' is the specification of the VoteWrap Method itself. And here are some examples of how VoteWrap and OO Doco could be integrated to give real world benefits.

VoteWrap utilises Data Visualisation principles to present its results in a rich graphical format that is easier to understand than character based displays.
